Welcome to Karate International of Durham, Inc. We have been offering instruction and training in the martial arts since 1980 making us the oldest martial arts school in Durham. Over the past 32 years, we have had the opportunity to touch the life's of thousands of students and watched them grow not only in their martial arts skills, but also in their life skills.

Karate International has been on staff at Duke University in the Physical Education Department for over 22 years offering classes in karate, self-defense, cardio-kickboxing, core and meditation fitness and bowling.

What We Do

Karate International of Durham, Inc. is headed by Jessie Bowen (10th Degree Black Belt) and Diane Whitfield (8th Degree Black Belt) and a staff of AMAA Certified Instructors offering a number of programs for martial arts instruction and physical fitness.

Our system is a blend of martial arts styles creating the non-traditional American Karate System. Our style of karate is the art of Aiki-Shinkai Karate. The heart of Aiki-Shinkai teaching is the belief that all great techniques contain a balance of mental, physical and spiritual forces.
